Dakgangjeong Korean Fried Chicken Recipe in 6 Easy Steps!

Hello everyone! I am back with another fun yet simple recipe. Today, you will be making a Korean chicken dish called “Dakgangjeong”. Pronounced (Dahk-gang-jee-ong) it translates to “Crispy Sweet Chicken”. I have made it many times before and it is mouth-watering! The tanginess mixed with the sweetness is to die for, and I’ll explain in the simplest way I can!

First, let’s make sure your cooking space is ready! Time for a “Clean Check”~

  • There are no dishes in the sink.

You want to keep the sink clean because this will keep the kitchen nice and tidy, and the sink free to make sure you are stress-free.

  • Counters are wiped down and cleaned from stains.

No one wants dirty, nasty, counters! This is a sanitation must. Instead of just using regular water, use bleach spray to wipe it down to kill bacteria!

  • Hands are washed (Gloves are optional)

Another sanitation must! This is very important, especially if you are feeding many. You can bring bacteria that are unwanted into the food if you aren’t careful.

  • Floors are clean and not slippery.

Floors should be free from crumbs, dust, and spills. Even after sweeping and mopping, you need to wait until the floor is dry so you don’t slip!

  • All kitchenware is clean and ready.

This will help with time, and just all around more convenient if all kitchenware is clean and ready to be used, instead of having to clean one in the middle of cooking!

Now that, we have gone over the essentials. Time to prep our ingredients! This will have 4 servings with these measurements! Now, I will also be including how many calories each serving has.

One serving: 660 Calories

Ingredients

  • Chicken Breats (4)
  • Buttermilk (1 cup)
  • Salt (1 ½ tsp)
  • White/Black Pepper (¼ tsp)
  • Garlic powder (¾ tsp)
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Paprika (1 tsp)
  • Baking Powder (1 tsp)
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying) [other oils are optional]
  • Chili Paste[Gochujang] (2 Tbsp)
  • Honey (2 Tbsp)
  • Brown Sugar (4 Tbsp) [other sugar optional]
  • Soy Sauce (4 Tbsp)
  • Sesame Oil (1 Tbsp)
  • Sesame Seeds (garnish) (choice amount)
  • Scallions (garnish) (choice amount)

Now that we have everything in order, let’s begin!

Step 1:

Grab your chicken and cut it into pieces that are bite sized! Make sure to be careful.

Step 2:

Marinate the chicken in buttermilk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let it sit for a while and let it get nice and coated.

Step 3:

After that, start heating up either a deep fryer or a pan of oil. Start coating your chicken in the flour until it is covered. After that, start frying your chicken until it is nice and crispy.

Step 4:

While your chicken is cooking, get a sauce pot or pan and mix together the chili paste, honey, brown sugar, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Cook it until it bubbles and has a syrupy consistency.

Step 5:

Toss the chicken in the mixture that we made until the chicken is nice and coated.

Step 6:

Finally, garnish the chicken by chopping up some scallions and using some sesame seeds.

Perfect! You are done! You can serve it with white rice and use any spare sauce with the rice. This dish will impress your family and friends. I hope you really enjoyed this tasty meal! Many more to come! Remember, always respect others and keep your head high with a smile! Love you all, have a wonderful day!
